Thursday Morning Point Guard(10/8/08)

The following post will be the first segment in a series that will follow one of the most storied franchises in recreational basketball history: the BG Ballers.

History: The BG Ballers were enfranchised in 2005. The team was built around CG and JF. JF is widely regarded as one the best Suburban Ballers of his time. JF is decorated as a top 50 recreational player of all-time.
Scouting Report on JF: An extremely talented scorer who has perfected the art of the mid-range jumper with the help of his long-time shooting coach and mentor, DF. Decent ball handler, good dribbler, deceptively explosive and strong lower body. Needs to work on half-court passing.
Scouting Report on CG: A long, athletic big man. One of the most versatile big men in league history. Routinely dominates the glass, can score in the paint, via fade-away 10 foot jumpers, range extends out to three point territory, and face-up drives to the hoop. Good passing big man. Extremely passionate player, always gives 100% on both ends. Needs to work on lower-body strength to be a consistent post-up threat and needs to solidify himself as a number 2 scoring option. Needs to work on outlet passing, gets too caught up in elbowing opponents after securing rebounds.
The remaining players will be introduced later...The BG Ballers tasted success relatively early winning their first championship in their third season and riding that wave for 4 consecutive seasons- drawing comparisons to the great New York Yankees. The last two seasons, however, have not been as successful. The Ballers have been in a steep decline over the last year- getting bounced early in the first round only to come back and fail to make the playoffs the following season. The dynasty that once was is now merely a .500 ball club that is struggling to recreate the glory of the past. The first step will to be to concede that the team is just a shell of its championself self and that the league has evolved.

Postgame(Week 2)
The BG Ballers are currently in rebuilding phase. Team Captain and consensus President of Basketball Operations, JF has been signing black players left and right. To the dismay of rest of the team JF signed BP1 before game one and BP2 minutes before game two. Surprisingly this has not affected team chemistry as predicted, but at this rate the Ballers will have stockpiled enough troops to for a million man march by the postseason.

Wednesday's matchup was a battle royale with one of the most infamous rivalries in recreational history. BG Ballers(52) versus the Greeks(44).

DROMA3 Player of the Game- CG

Recap-
CG was excellent all-around. He was a treat on offense- displaying his whole arsenal with a combination of fade-away jumpers and a couple impressive isolation base line drives for floaters. Although the statistics are not readily available, it's safe to say that he lead the game in rebounding. JF struggled early but hit key jumpers to keep Ballers in the lead down the stretch. JF also pulled off a beautiful fake to DR in transition for a lay-up. BP2 was a pleasant surprise, coming off the bench and exhibiting overall unselfish play and contributing to key defensive stops and fast-break opportunities. Ultimately the game came down to team defense that translated into transition buckets. The Ballers went on a run that resulted in the game's biggest point differential of 8 points. Coach DF was not available to comment after the game.

Commentary-
The Ballers are beginning to understand that their formula for success is composed of active Team defense and limited turnovers on offense. The Ballers took a step in the right direction yesterday. They need to solidify their rotation and possibly add a big man to help CG on the boards, or find a replacement for sharpshooter TC who is currently on the DL. Ballers desperately need a spot-up shooter to strecth the court for penetration. DZ fits the mold but has not yet proven that he can fill this essential void.
